Tony R. Thene, President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Thene was appointed to serve as Carpenter Technology’s President and Chief Executive Officer in July 2015, when he was also appointed to the Board of Directors. He previously served as Carpenter Technology’s Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from January 2013 until June 2015. Prior to joining Carpenter Technology, Mr. Thene served as the Chief Financial Officer of the Engineered Products and Solutions Business Group at Alcoa, Inc. from 2010 until 2013. Previously, he served as Vice President, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer of Alcoa. He also previously held various other positions during his 23-year career at Alcoa, including Director, Investor Relations; Chief Financial Officer for the Flat Rolled Products Group; Chief Financial Officer for Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals; and manufacturing manager for the Alumina Chemicals business.

Mr. Thene earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Indiana State University and his MBA from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Thene serves on the Board of Directors of Neenah, Inc., a leading global specialty materials company focused on premium niche markets that value performance and image. He also serves on Furman University’s Board of Trustees.

Marshall Akins, Vice President - Chief Commercial Officer

Marshall Akins was named Vice President - Chief Commercial Officer of Carpenter Technology Corporation in February 2022. Marshall joined Carpenter Technology in 2016 as Vice President – Aerospace, where he led the Company’s Aerospace and Defense market.

Marshall is responsible for overseeing the Company’s commercial operations, which account for over $1.4 billion in total annual net sales. This includes commercial strategy, market development, and sales and customer support across Carpenter Technology.

Prior to joining Carpenter Technology, Marshall worked for the Boston Consulting Group, a global management consulting firm. There, he most recently held the position of Principal in the Boston, MA office, and was responsible for planning and executing engagements with clients across a wide range of strategic and operational issues. He worked in BCG’s Industrial Goods practice area, primarily focused on company growth and effectiveness.

Marshall earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University.

James D. Dee, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary

James D. Dee was named Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Carpenter Technology Corporation in August 2020. He also serves as Carpenter Technology’s Chief Governance Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. He previously held the position of Carpenter Technology’s Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary.

Jim is responsible for the broad array of domestic and international legal matters of the Company including securities compliance and reporting, corporate secretary matters, legal compliance (FCPA, export regulations, etc.), Company policies and procedures, commercial transactions, customer/vendor contracts, acquisitions and divestitures, litigation/dispute management, protection and management of intellectual property, employee benefits and relations, workers’ compensation, health & safety, environmental compliance, and real estate transactions.

Jim joined Carpenter with nearly 30 years of industrial and manufacturing experience after serving most recently as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary and Chief Administrative Officer at C&D Technologies. Prior to his tenure at C&D Technologies, Jim was employed by the law firm of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhodes, LLP, where he was a member of the firm’s corporate law department, specializing in securities matters, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions and intellectual property. He also served 16 years at SPS Technologies, Inc., where he last served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. While at SPS, Jim was responsible for all legal and regulatory affairs of the company.

Jim is a graduate of the Marshall-Wythe School of Law of the College of William and Mary and the University of Pennsylvania.

In addition to being a licensed patent attorney, he is also a member of the Bars of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

David Graf, Vice President and Group President, PEP

David Graf was named Vice President and Group President of Carpenter Technology’s Performance Engineered Products (PEP) business segment in April 2022. David leads the PEP segment’s portfolio of businesses (Carpenter Additive, Dynamet and Carpenter Distribution).

David previously served as Vice President and Group President of Specialty Alloys Operations (SAO), the Company's major premium alloy and stainless steel manufacturing business. He also held the role of Vice President - Chief Technology Officer (CTO), where he led the Company’s Research & Development (R&D) and Quality organizations, as well as the Carpenter Additive business unit, which then incorporated the former Carpenter Powder Products business.

Prior to joining Carpenter Technology in September 2018, David worked for W.R. Grace, a global leader in the development and manufacture of products and technologies used in energy, refining, polyolefins, plastics, petrochemical, and other chemical manufacturing applications. During his eight years with Grace, he served as the Global R&D Director, as well as the General Manager Americas and Vice President Global Marketing for Specialty Catalysts in addition to the integration leader for a strategic acquisition. Prior to that, David worked for The Dow Chemical Company for 12 years in a variety of R&D leadership roles.

David received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Michigan State University. He then earned his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, followed by Postdoctoral Associate position at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Joseph E. Haniford, Senior Vice President - Continuous Improvement

Joseph E. Haniford was named Carpenter Technology’s Senior Vice President of Continuous Improvement in July 2021. In this role, he is responsible for leading the Company’s Environmental, Health and Safety and Global Engineering groups, as well as Operational Excellence deployment.

Joe previously held the positions of Senior Vice President – Operations; Vice President – Business Management Office and Global Advanced Engineering; Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and Senior Vice President, Specialty Alloys Operations (SAO).

Prior to joining Carpenter, Joe served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for EnTrans International and was a member of its Board of Directors. With operations across six countries and 2,600 employees, EnTrans provides trailers and oil field fracking equipment for the Transportation and Oil & Gas markets.

Joe previously worked for Alcoa, Inc. for more than 30 years in various executive leadership positions and had P&L accountability for multiple businesses during his career, most recently within the Alcoa Power and Propulsion business unit. As Vice President and General Manager of the $1 billon global Aerospace Airfoil business, Joe achieved major improvements in safety, customer satisfaction, market growth, operational excellence, and bottom-line financial results. Prior to that, Joe served as President of Alcoa’s Howmet Aluminum Castings and Vice President and General Manager of the Forged & Cast Products business. He also spent numerous years with Alcoa Rigid Packaging where he held various positions.

Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, located in Terre Haute, IN.

Timothy Lain, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Tim Lain was named Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Carpenter Technology Corporation in August 2020. He previously held the positions of Carpenter Technology’s Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and Vice President – Controller & Chief Accounting Officer.

Tim is responsible for continuing to execute the Company’s overall financial strategy, including SEC and management reporting, investor relations, cost management, procurement, capital allocation, and balance sheet optimization.

Tim has over 25 years of financial experience, including 13 years with the Company. Prior to joining Carpenter Technology, Tim served as Audit Director at McGladrey & Pullen.

Tim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Fox School of Business at Temple University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Shakthimani Logasundaram, Chief Digital Officer

Shakthimani “Shakthi” Logasundaram was appointed Carpenter Technology’s Chief Digital Officer in November 2021.

Shakthi is responsible for developing and executing the Company’s end-to-end digital strategy and value realization. Shakthi serves as a member of the Executive Team that sets the strategic direction of the company.

Prior to joining Carpenter Technology, since 2017 Mr. Logasundaram was Vice President & Chief Digital and Information Officer of Honeywell’s Performance Materials and Technologies segment, where he led an end-to-end technology transformation journey focused on enabling revenue growth, operational effectiveness and integrated data and processes. Prior to this role, Mr. Logasundaram spent close to 20 years with GE where he held various executive roles including most recently Vice President – Chief Information Officer, Downstream Technology Solutions of GE Oil & Gas. He brings a breadth of expertise leading traditional and digital technology teams, as well as building and executing on a digital strategy and related technology roadmaps to drive long-term value.

Shakthi earned a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree fr\om Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) of Mumbai and completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Computing from the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) at Pune, India. He is Six Sigma black belt trained. He also served on the Board of Directors for PIDX (Petroleum Industry Data Exchange).

Brian J. Malloy, Senior Vice President and Group President, SAO

Brian J. Malloy was named Senior Vice President and Group President of Carpenter Technology’s Specialty Alloys Operations (SAO) business segment in April 2022. SAO is the Company's major premium alloy and stainless steel manufacturing business. He also leads the Company’s marketing organization and the Company’s electrification efforts.

Brian previously served as Senior Vice President and Group President of the Performance Engineered Products (PEP) business, as well as Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.

Prior to joining Carpenter Technology, Brian worked for Global Precision Tubes where he was the Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer. In this role, he was responsible for growth strategy, business development and commercial operations. His previous experience includes key roles at Alcoa, Inc., where his last position was Vice President, Commercial for Industrial Gas Turbines in the Power and Propulsion business unit. Brian also held key business executive and product leadership positions within Alcoa’s forging, structural castings and extrusions operations in aerospace, defense, energy, and ground transportation markets.

Brian is a member of the Boards of the International Titanium Association (ITA) and the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA). He is a co-inventor of five patents, with an MBA from the College of William & Mary, a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech, along with executive certifications from Northwestern University for Artificial Intelligence and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for Digital Transformation.

Suniti Moudgil, Chief Technology Officer

Suniti Moudgil was appointed Carpenter Technology’s Chief Technology Officer in December 2021.

Suniti is responsible for leading the Company’s technology strategy and Research & Development (R&D) organization, as well as overseeing the Company’s intellectual property portfolio and patent strategy. She also serves as a member of the Executive Team that sets the strategic direction of the company.

Prior to joining Carpenter Technology, Suniti spent more than 17 years across various technical and commercial leadership roles at DuPont. Most recently, Suniti was a Global Technology Leader in DuPont’s Electronics and Industrial business unit, where she led the technology strategy and R&D organization for multiple product lines in the portfolio. Prior to this role, Suniti held positions at DuPont spanning R&D, Strategy, Marketing and Operations. She has led key strategic initiatives including the alignment of research priorities, pipeline development, business interests and intellectual property.

Suniti earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida with Highest Honors. She then earned her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with a minor in Health Sciences and Technology. She also earned her Executive Education Certification from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business on Leading Innovative Change, and is Six Sigma Black Belt certified.

Rachelle H. Thompson, Vice President - Chief Human Resources Officer

Rachelle Thompson was named Vice President - Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of Carpenter Technology Corporation in August 2020. She previously held the position of CHRO.

Rachelle’s primary role is to execute workforce business strategy, increase employee commitment and shape Carpenter Technology’s culture, with an emphasis on performance. She is responsible for providing executive leadership in critical areas such as organizational development, compensation, benefits, staffing, communications, labor relations and policy, employee engagement, and talent acquisition, as well as other supporting human resources functions. She is a member of the Executive Team that sets the strategic direction of the company.

Prior to joining Carpenter Technology, Rachelle was a partner at McGuireWoods LLP, where she concentrated on intellectual property, complex commercial litigation, and business counseling. She also practiced in the general and patent litigation departments of an international law firm in the District of Columbia. Before practicing law, she conducted academic and industrial research in the areas of synthetic organic chemistry, phospholipid chemistry, and lithography.

Rachelle completed her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from The University of San Diego School of Law. She earned her Ph.D. from Stanford University, and was the first African American woman in the school’s history to receive a Ph.D. in Chemistry. She graduated first in her class from Furman University with a Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, in Chemistry. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, serves on the Furman University Board of Trustees, and is actively involved in several other professional and community organizations.
